Raise the screen to eye level
The top of your screen should sit at or slightly below eye level, about an arm’s length away. A laptop stand does this for laptops; for monitors, a riser or a stack of books works too.
Set chair height by your elbows
With shoulders relaxed, your elbows should rest at roughly desk height and your forearms should be close to level. Adjust the chair first, then add a footrest if your feet no longer reach the floor.
Keep the keyboard and mouse close
Reaching forward all day pulls the shoulders out of position. Bring both within easy reach and give them a consistent surface, such as a desk mat, so your wrists are not dragging across a hard edge.
Light the desk, not the screen
Glare on the display makes you lean and squint. A monitor light bar or a lamp placed to the side lights the desk without reflecting off the screen.
